Front Yard, Backyard, or Back Forty: Shawnee Fences Planned Right

Shawnee is the farthest regular stop on our map, so we treat each visit as a working trip. Luke Tiller or an estimator will pace off your fence line, look for the survey pins, check where the front building line falls, and talk through gates and height before leaving. You get an itemized written price at no charge, and the city paperwork is on us. To put a fence estimate on the calendar, phone (405) 784-4424, day or night.

Privacy, Pet, and Ranch Fencing in Shawnee

If you need a fence contractor in Shawnee, Tiller Fence and Deck installs and repairs fences all over the Pottawatomie County seat, from small city lots near downtown to wooded acreage on the north edge of town. Our menu covers cedar, vinyl, galvanized or black chain link, powder-coated aluminum, Ameristar steel, pipe and field fence, plus walk gates, drive gates and gate openers. Shawnee jobs are built by people who work for Tiller directly. We do not farm a single fence line out to a subcontractor, no matter how far east the address is.

Luke Tiller started this veteran-owned business in 2006, and it is still a family operation where he prices jobs in person and stops by sites while crews work. Since 2017 we have served as The Home Depot’s exclusive fence installer for 16 stores in Oklahoma, so our installs are held to a national retailer’s standards as well as our own. Tiller is licensed, bonded and insured. Our labor on every Shawnee fence is backed for one full year, and if a workmanship issue appears in that window, we return and correct it.

Shawnee has its own fence rules, and some of them surprise people. The zoning code keeps residential front-yard fences to three feet, bars barbed and electric wire on home lots, and lets the city order repairs once a fence leans or falls into disrepair. We plan around all of that from the first visit. When the goal is to block the view from an alley, a busy street or the house behind you, have us price a cedar privacy fence on galvanized steel posts, or a solid vinyl run that will never need a brush.

Woodland Park Blocks to North Shawnee Acreage

Shawnee mail splits mainly between 74801 on the south side and 74804 up north, with 74802 reserved for post office boxes. Around Woodland Veterans Park on East Highland Street, older frame houses sit close together, and owners call us to replace tired chain link with wood. West of Kickapoo, the curving streets around the Jefferson Circle park ask for tidy backyard privacy. North of MacArthur, newer Wildwood homes off Madison Avenue and the blocks near Mihura Park on Hardesty Drive tend to start with bare yards, and farther out, country lots in American Country Estates along Carefree Lane want room for horses or a shop.

Ground in Shawnee changes from block to block. Much of town sits on sandy Cross Timbers soil under post oak and blackjack, which digs easily but lets a shallow post rock loose, and the low ground near creeks stays soft long after a rain. Storms are the bigger test. The April 2023 EF2 tornado that tore across town is a fresh reminder of what wind can do here. We set galvanized steel posts in concrete at full depth, brace corners and gate posts, and pick vinyl systems with reinforced posts rated for Oklahoma gusts.

Each kind of Shawnee lot has a fence that fits it. Narrow parcels on the older grid usually need a six-foot cedar fence along the alley with a gate wide enough for trash carts. Newer subdivisions to the north often have covenants that set style and height, so bring yours to the estimate. Corner lots need careful layout along the street side. Pools call for a latching barrier, large dogs benefit from a buried dig guard, and acreage owners typically pair pipe fence along the road with field fence around the pasture.

The City of Shawnee’s zoning code (Section 22-212) generally limits fences in a residential required front yard to three feet and caps fences at eight feet. On corner lots it allows six feet along side and rear lines, but keeps the street-side yard to three feet in some layouts, and nothing may block the intersection visibility triangle or sit in the right-of-way. Barbed, razor and electric wire are not allowed on residential lots, and every fenced area must have a gate. The city’s pool permit calls for at least a four-foot barrier with a self-latching gate. We call OKIE811 before any hole is dug.

The Fence Crew Behind 16 Oklahoma Home Depot Stores

Backyard Screen

Cedar Privacy Fences

Premium cedar pickets fastened to steel posts that sit in concrete, built six feet tall for full backyard screening in Shawnee. It is the natural pick for alley-side fences on older lots, and a cap rail or trim board gives the top a finished line.

Wash and Go

Vinyl Fencing

Vinyl in privacy, semi-privacy and picket styles that never needs paint or stain. Its reinforced posts are rated for Oklahoma wind, a real plus on open Shawnee lots, and white or tan panels keep a clean look around pools and patios.

Dog Run Ready

Chain Link Fencing

Galvanized or black vinyl-coated chain link for dog runs, side yards, gardens and business lots across Shawnee. It keeps sight lines open, costs less per foot than most options, and replaces the rusted, sagging chain link found on many older blocks.

Low and Open

Aluminum Fencing

Powder-coated aluminum with the look of wrought iron and none of the rust. It works well in Shawnee front yards, where the code keeps fences low, and around backyard pools that need a see-through barrier with a self-latching gate.

Heavy Duty Steel

Ameristar Iron Fencing

As an Ameristar dealer-installer, Tiller builds pre-galvanized, powder-coated steel fence for Shawnee homes, churches, schools and commercial sites that need more muscle than aluminum can give. Gates built to match carry the same look around the whole property.

Every Shawnee fence follows the same five steps, and one company handles all of them. Here is what to expect after you reach out.

01

Reach Out Any Hour

Phone (405) 784-4424, which is answered around the clock, or send the form near the top of this page. We set a time to meet you at your Shawnee home, free of charge.

02

Measure, Mark, and Price

We measure every run, locate property pins, note slope, trees and drainage, and review any HOA or covenant rules. Then you receive a written, itemized quote with no pressure to sign.

03

Pick Material and Height

Choose cedar, vinyl, chain link, aluminum, steel or ranch fence, then lock in height, gate sizes and finish. We flag spots where Shawnee's front yard or corner rules limit height.

04

Locates, Posts, and Panels

We handle any city paperwork, have OKIE811 mark buried lines, then set posts in concrete and hang pickets, panels or wire. Most home fences finish in a few working days.

05

Walkthrough and Haul Off

We inspect the finished fence with you, test each gate and latch, and remove spoil dirt and scraps. From that day, our workmanship is guaranteed for one year.

What matters most to us is what Shawnee families say after the crew drives away. We are also glad to see Tiller Fence and Deck named among dependable fence companies serving Pottawatomie County and the wider central Oklahoma area.

Shawnee Knows Tornado Wind, So We Anchor Every Post

After the 2023 tornado and the hailstorms that roll through Pottawatomie County most springs, a weak fence line here does not last long. We respond with full-depth holes, galvanized steel posts in concrete, braced gate and corner posts, and vinyl posts built for Oklahoma wind. The goal is simple: a fence that is still plumb and latched when the sirens go quiet.

Fence Stories From Shawnee Area Homeowners

★★★★★

Tiller Fence and Deck did a great job on my fence. I didn't know what type of fencing I wanted and needed, and they helped me determine what would be best and fit within my budget. The crew kept me informed about when they would arrive, kept me updated throughout the process, and made sure that I was satisfied.

Tiffany Hardeman

New fence installation, May 2024 · Google review

★★★★★

Tiller Fence and Deck replaced most of our fence in 2019. In February 2024 Tiller completed a fencing project built into a freshly poured retaining wall, and also replaced and expanded our driveway and added landscaped drainage around our house. We like the way it looks, and we found Luke Tiller very easy to work with.

Wood or Trex Composite: Choosing Your Deck Material

For a new Oklahoma City deck, the choice between wood and composite mostly comes down to upkeep. Pressure-treated wood typically lasts 15 to 20 years with proper care, while Trex composite is expected to last 25 to 30 years or more and never needs sealing or staining. We handle the permits, and every deck carries a one-year workmanship guarantee.

How to Pick a Fence and Deck Contractor in OKC

Before you sign with anyone, ask four things: are they licensed, bonded, and insured; do their own crews do the work; is there a written workmanship guarantee; and who pulls the permit. Our answers are yes, yes, one year, and us, and every job ends with a walkthrough before the crew leaves.

Repair, Restain, or Replace Your Wood Fence?

A leaning fence or a few bad boards doesn’t always mean starting over. We repair posts and sections when the damage is local, and staining and sealing can add years to a sound fence. When the whole run is failing, we’ll tell you straight that a new fence is the better spend.

Answers for Shawnee Fence Shoppers

How is the price of a Shawnee fence figured?

Your fence cost is driven mostly by total linear footage, the material you choose, the height, and how many gates the layout needs. Tearing out an old fence, digging through roots or rock, and working around slopes add labor, while long straight runs on acreage bring the per-foot cost down. Chain link and field fence are the economical end, cedar and vinyl sit in the middle, and ornamental steel runs higher. We price it in writing at your Shawnee property, free.

Once I sign, how soon will my Shawnee fence be finished?

Most backyard fences in Shawnee take two to four working days once OKIE811 has marked the utility lines and any city paperwork is settled. Long pasture runs, custom steel and gate operators can take longer, and concrete needs time to set before panels go on. Since we drive in from Norman, we load the trucks with everything up front, give you a start and finish window, and call if rain shifts the plan.

What height rules and paperwork apply to fences in Shawnee?

Shawnee’s zoning code generally keeps fences in a residential required front yard to three feet and sets an eight-foot cap, with six feet allowed along side and rear lines on many corner lots. Fences must stay out of the right-of-way and the corner visibility triangle. The city’s posted permit list has no stand-alone fence permit form, so we confirm with Building and Engineering Services for your address and file anything required.

Is cedar, vinyl, or metal the smarter fence for a Shawnee home?

For screening on a budget, a cedar wood fence delivers the most privacy per dollar and suits older homes and oak-shaded yards, though it needs a fresh seal coat every few years. A vinyl fence costs more at the start and asks for nothing but a hose now and then. Aluminum and Ameristar steel are the choice for low front-yard fences, pools and entries where you want to see through. On acreage, pipe rail up front with field fence behind is common.

Do you cover my part of Shawnee, and which nearby towns?

Yes. We fence homes across all of Shawnee: the older streets near Woodland Veterans Park and downtown, the Jefferson Circle area, Wildwood and the north side along Kickapoo, and country lots off Carefree Lane and beyond. Our crews also work in Choctaw, Midwest City, Del City, Noble and Norman, where our shop is. No matter which town you are in, the estimate is done at your property and costs nothing.
