Family-Owned Deck Contractor in El Reno
Need a deck builder in El Reno? Tiller Fence and Deck designs and installs decks for El Reno households, and we drive in from our Norman shop for every visit, so the distance never lands on you. The company is veteran-owned and run by a family, and the carpenters on your job are our own staff. We handle low treated-pine platforms, western red cedar, Trex composite, roofed decks and patio covers, rail upgrades, cedar pergolas, and the repair or refinishing an older deck needs after a few hard Oklahoma summers.
Luke Tiller founded the business in 2006 and still walks yards, writes up estimates, and checks on crews mid-build. Since 2017 we have served as The Home Depot’s exclusive fence and deck installer for 16 of its Oklahoma stores, so our framing and finish work is held to a big retailer’s checklist on top of Luke’s own. Tiller is bonded, insured, and properly licensed. Should anything we installed need attention in the first year, we come back and fix the workmanship without a bill.
El Reno is not a suburb, and it does not build like one. The neighborhoods south of Wade Street hold homes from the early 1900s with mature trees and narrow side yards, while the newer streets near Lake El Reno and off Manning Road sit on flat, wide-open ground. Farther out, country lots give you room to stretch a deck along the whole back of the house. Tell us how you plan to use it, and we will draw up a custom deck that fits the home, the lot, and the money you want to spend.
Route 66 Blocks, Lakeside Streets, and Country Lots Around El Reno
Our El Reno work covers the historic core along Route 66, where Sid’s Diner and Robert’s Grill still fry onion burgers and the Rock Island Depot now houses the Canadian County Museum, plus the tree-lined blocks around Legion Park and the older homes along South Evans and South Hoff. On the southwest side, Crimson Lake Estates borders Lake El Reno and the Crimson Creek golf course, and Manning Farms keeps growing north of town. The whole city, and most of the farmland around it, shares one ZIP code, 73036, so a single mailing address here can mean a 1910 two-story or a house framed last year.
El Reno sits at roughly 1,340 feet on open prairie with little to slow the wind, which makes weather the first thing we plan around. This is the same country where the widest tornado on record, 2.6 miles across, crossed rural land near town on May 31, 2013, and four lives were lost. No deck is built for a direct hit, but everyday gusts, hail, and ice still punish weak framing. We set concrete piers deep enough that winter frost cannot heave them, fasten with hardware rated against corrosion, and steer sun-baked, west-facing decks toward Trex composite decking or cedar that is sealed right away.
Housing in El Reno comes in three flavors. Older homes near downtown often have porches, detached garages, and shaded yards where a low deck or a wide step-down platform fits between the trees. In Crimson Lake Estates and Manning Farms, new one- and two-story plans usually leave a small slab and a fenced yard with no shade yet, so a raised deck with stairs or a covered deck is the usual ask, and we review any neighborhood covenants before ordering material. On acreage outside town, wraparound decks and long runs facing the view are common.
Inside city limits, building permits run through the City of El Reno’s Community Development Department at the municipal building on North Choctaw Avenue, and the residential application asks for plans that show stairways and decking. Expect to need one for a deck bolted to your home or perched high above the grass. Homes in unincorporated Canadian County fall under different rules, so we confirm jurisdiction first. Several houses south of downtown are on the National Register, and we check whether any added review applies before design starts. Our office prepares and files the application for you.
Everything We Build in El Reno
Each service listed on our Google profile is work our own people do for El Reno homeowners. Tap a card for materials, the factors that move the price, and finished jobs, or call and we can sort out the right fit together.
Custom Decks
Designed around your El Reno lot, the way the wind crosses it, and where the shade falls by late afternoon. Options run from a single low platform to tiered decks with built-in benches and step lights. The design meeting is free, our carpenters build it, and twelve months of labor coverage follows.
Trex Composite Decking
Trex boards keep their color under open western sky and never need a stain brush, which matters on exposed El Reno lots. As The Home Depot's only deck installer for 16 Oklahoma stores, we build composite decks that resist fading, mildew, and blowing grit, with the price spelled out in writing first.
Wood & Cedar Decks
Western red cedar and treated pine decks suit El Reno's older homes and keep the opening price lower. We stain and seal the wood when the build wraps up so it starts life protected, and the carpentry is guaranteed for a full year.
Covered Decks & Patio Covers
A roof over the deck turns a treeless new yard in El Reno into a spot you can use on a 100-degree July afternoon or during a spring shower. We match pitch and trim to the house and frame every cover to engineered specs with our own crew.
Deck Railing
Rails in wood, composite, or metal bring an El Reno deck up to code for height and baluster spacing, or simply freshen an older one. Each system is chosen to match the deck it guards and installed by our insured, licensed team.
Deck Staining & Sealing
Wind and full sun pull moisture out of wood fast in El Reno. We wash, prep, and apply a quality stain and sealer evenly, so boards regain color, bead off rain, and last longer through heat, storms, and freeze cycles.
Deck Repair
Spongy boards, wobbly rails, sagging joists, or hail damage on an El Reno deck do not always call for a teardown. We inspect the full structure free of charge, swap out failed parts, and reinforce what remains so the deck is safe again.
Pergolas
Cedar pergolas and privacy walls add filtered shade and a bit of separation to El Reno backyards, from downtown lots to new streets near the lake. Freestanding or tied to the house, each is braced for prairie wind and styled to match your deck.

We had our porch built by Tiller Fence and Deck, and we honestly couldn't be happier with the results. Luke was amazing to work with from start to finish. Communication was clear, easy, and consistent, and we never felt pushed or pressured at any point. The team worked quickly and efficiently while still paying great attention to detail.

Working with Tiller was a joy. Luke was straightforward and gave us his recommendations without pulling any punches! He reproduced our original pergola almost to a tee (with the addition of a roof). The crew was very professional and the hardest working people I've seen in a long time! The final product was excellent and surpassed our expectations.

Wood or Trex Composite: Choosing Your Deck Material
For a new Oklahoma City deck, the choice between wood and composite mostly comes down to upkeep. Pressure-treated wood typically lasts 15 to 20 years with proper care, while Trex composite is expected to last 25 to 30 years or more and never needs sealing or staining. We handle the permits, and every deck carries a one-year workmanship guarantee.

How to Pick a Fence and Deck Contractor in OKC
Before you sign with anyone, ask four things: are they licensed, bonded, and insured; do their own crews do the work; is there a written workmanship guarantee; and who pulls the permit. Our answers are yes, yes, one year, and us, and every job ends with a walkthrough before the crew leaves.

Repair, Restain, or Replace Your Wood Fence?
A leaning fence or a few bad boards doesn’t always mean starting over. We repair posts and sections when the damage is local, and staining and sealing can add years to a sound fence. When the whole run is failing, we’ll tell you straight that a new fence is the better spend.
