Why You Should Choose
Tiller's Cedar Decking

At Tiller Fence and Deck, we're committed to delivering exceptional craftsmanship and unmatched customer service on every wood and cedar deck we build.

Real Cedar Decking for Oklahoma Homes

Get the natural beauty of real cedar with a build process that accounts for grade, exposure, and how the wood will hold up over time. Cedar decking offers homeowners a set of advantages other building materials simply can't match:

  • Naturally Resistant to Rot and Insects
Cedar's natural oils help resist rot, decay, and insects without chemical treatments.
  • Lightweight and Easy to Work With
Its lightweight structure allows for cleaner cuts, tighter fits, and a smoother installation.
  • Resin-Free, Finish-Ready
Cedar absorbs stains and finishes evenly without the sap or resin found in many softwoods.
  • Lower Environmental Impact
Cedar stores carbon throughout its life and requires less processing than composite decking, making it a more environmentally friendly choice.

With durable materials and expert installation, we build wood and cedar decks that look great and hold up for decades.

Deck Boards Built to Last Season After Season

At Tiller we pair premium lumber with expert craftsmanship to build deck boards that stay straight, lay flat, and hold their shape through Oklahoma's heat, humidity, and winter freeze-thaw cycles.

The Sustainability Case for Cedar Decking

Cedar decking is one of the more sustainable choices among common building materials. Cedar trees used for decking are harvested from managed forests where more trees are planted than are cut down, and the wood itself continues to hold carbon absorbed from the atmosphere long after installation. At the end of its life, cedar is biodegradable in a landfill, unlike composite decking, which is made from plastic and wood fiber that doesn't break down the same way.

Caring for Your Deck Boards: Staining & Maintenance

Wood decking rewards routine care. Here's what we recommend to keep cedar or pine deck boards protected:

  • Reapply a semi-transparent stain on cedar every 2 to 3 years to protect the wood and keep its color from graying
  • Check exposed boards each year for splitting, popped nails, or early signs of decay
  • Clear leaves and debris off the deck to keep moisture from sitting on the wood
  • Sand any rough or splintered spots before applying a fresh coat of stain

A little maintenance goes a long way. Skipping stain leaves wood boards exposed to sun and rain, which is generally when rot and warping set in.

Jason and his crew did a great job of installing our fence. They were very timely and made sure to ask us if we had any questions regarding the fence installation.

Tiller Fence did a great job replacing my old fence. They installed my first fence years ago and it lasted through several big storms and still looked good after all those years. The new fence was installed in one day. The crew was professional and did a good job cleaning up. The stain was completed today. Highly recommend.

Great cedar fence install with cap and trim. Also did the metal fence on common area to match my HOA requirement. They communicate well and get the job done quickly and we were not left with any problems.

Tiller installed several hundred feet of 7 ft high white vinyl privacy fence on my corner lot in Norman. I couldn't have asked for a more professional and customer-oriented company. And the quality of work was actually better than what I'd hoped it would be, all at a more than fair price. He did everything we agreed to, didn't cut any corners and even went over & above in many areas to ensure my satisfaction. Thank you Luke! 110% satisfied!

Luke and Bobby were excellent. Bobby built the nicest fence. His Customer Service was some of the best I’ve had. He answered all my questions and told me to go around the fence, after he built it “, and pick it apart because he wanted me to be happy with it. I I’m a single woman making the decisions myself. Sometimes I feel like I get taken advantage of. But not with Tiller Fence. I definitely give them five stars.

Frequently Asked Questions Wood & Cedar Decks

Why is Western Red Cedar a popular choice for decking?
Western red cedar is naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insects while offering a beautiful wood grain and warm color. It's also lightweight, easy to work with, and can last 25 years or more with proper care.
Is cedar a durable wood for a deck?
Yes. Cedar is a durable wood that's naturally resistant to moisture and decay. While it requires regular staining or sealing to maintain its appearance, it's built to handle Oklahoma's climate when properly maintained.
Why is cedar considered dimensionally stable?
Cedar is naturally dimensionally stable, which means it's less likely to warp, twist, or shrink as temperatures and humidity change. This helps your deck maintain its appearance and structural integrity over time.
Should I choose cedar or pressure-treated wood?
Both materials have their place. Pressure-treated wood is commonly used for structural framing because it's strong and cost-effective, while cedar is an ideal choice for the visible deck boards thanks to its natural beauty and resistance to rot.
Does cedar stay cooler than composite decking?
Yes. Cedar tends to remain cooler underfoot than many composite decking products, making it an excellent option for Oklahoma summers when decks receive hours of direct sunlight.
Can cedar decking be customized?
Absolutely. Cedar decking is available in a variety of profiles, textures, and board sizes, making it easy to create unique layouts such as herringbone patterns, picture-frame borders, and other custom designs that present your home's style beautifully.
How much maintenance does a cedar deck require?
To maintain its natural color, cedar should be cleaned and stained every few years. If you prefer a weathered appearance, cedar can naturally age to a soft gray finish while still providing long-lasting performance.
Is cedar easy to install?
Yes. Because cedar is lightweight, relatively soft, and contains very little pitch, it's easier to cut and fasten than many hardwoods, allowing for clean, precise installation.
Does cedar decking cost more than pressure-treated wood?
Yes, cedar generally has a higher price point than pressure-treated lumber. However, many homeowners choose it for its natural appearance, longer lifespan, and premium finish.
How do I choose the right cedar decking for my home?
The best way to select the right cedar decking depends on your budget, design preferences, and how you plan to use your outdoor space. Our team can help you compare grades, board dimensions, and finishes so you can buy the cedar deck that's the best fit for your home.
